The Humanity in Hatred
Humans have been around for millions of years and the fact that we still exist through the catastrophes we’ve seen unfold throughout time is insane and so extremely unlikely.
From diseases and epidemics to nuclear war, we have done an excellent job of attempting to kill off humanity (while allowing 1 percent of the population to be blissfully ignorant when convenient). Natural disasters aside, of course, some of us have played an incredible role in the downfall of humanity. And when I say “us” I’m referring to humans as a whole.
Growing up in the developed world gathering information about the history of this planet and the influence of catastrophe from policy to pandemic led me to the study of Psychology. The pursuit of finding out what motivates people to do the things that they do, and identifying patterns in behavior.
The most notable pattern that I’m sure everyone comes across is how widespread negativity is in media and how fast it makes its way around the world. The biggest headlines are not the ones about humanity’s positive efforts to help the planet survive, they’re the ones giving us reasons to fear each other and point the finger.
Humans naturally fear the unknown, and we find comfort and security in answers about the world around us. We stay to our groups, we immerse ourselves in beliefs and ways of life, all to…
